Every catch on the map starts with a walk, so it was always a little odd that the walk itself counted for nothing. That has changed. Seekprotocol now reads your daily steps and turns a good day on your feet into powerups, and two new watch apps keep the count on your wrist.
The app reads your steps from Apple Health on iPhone and Apple Watch, or from Health Connect on Android, which brings in Google Fit, Samsung Health and Fitbit. Only steps your phone or watch counted by itself are used. Steps entered by hand are not.
The day has a ladder with three rungs. At 10,000 steps you earn a Fitness, which lets you catch coins from much further away for a while. At 16,000 you earn an XP Boost, and at 24,000 a Spawn Lure. Each rung also asks for one real coin catch that day, so the rewards go to people who are out hunting, not to a phone left in a pocket. Steps you walk while hunting on the map count extra, measured by your phone's own motion sensor.
There is more for the people who keep it up. Walk 10,000 steps a day and you build a streak, with rewards on day 14, 30, 60 and 100, the last of them a Premium card pack for Seek Arena. Walk 15 km and you hatch a Step egg with a Basic card pack inside; you can start a new egg every seven days. Clans walk together toward a weekly goal of a million steps, and the board for the week shows how you compare.
The Apple Watch app shows your day at a glance: a ring that fills toward the next reward, your steps by hour, your streak, the week, your Step egg and your clan's goal. You can start a walk straight from your wrist, and the watch records its route, heart rate, distance and calories and saves it to Apple Health. An outdoor walk or run of 8 km earns a Fitness on a day you have not already earned one from steps. Complications and a Smart Stack widget keep the count on your watch face. It needs watchOS 11 or later.
On Wear OS, including Galaxy Watch, the app puts your ring, rewards, streak, week, Step egg and clan steps on one scrolling screen, with a tile and a complication for a glance without opening it. It needs Wear OS 3 or later. Both watch apps come with the Seekprotocol app; there is nothing separate to buy.
Your step data stays yours. The app reads steps, distance and your walking, running and hiking workouts, and writes nothing back except the walks you start on the watch. Steps are stored per hour and checked for fairness, and nothing is sold. You can hide yourself from the boards and disconnect at any time. The details are in our privacy policy.
To start, update the app, open Steps from the home screen and connect Apple Health or Health Connect. Then go for a walk. You were going to anyway.
